Your alarm sounds like a threatening toll. Waking up every morning is an ordeal.

You dread going to the office. Dragging yourself out of bed becomes a norm.

Instead of happy thoughts or positive vibes, you think of the worst thing that can happen to you at work later.

You wish you were somewhere else.

Then it dawns on you that you’re not going anywhere with your present job.

Well, every employee has this dilemma. Where am I going with this career?

Most of us accept a job because we need to have one. Most of us stay because we need to survive.

We always forget that we should also consider our passion in life.

Is this what I want?

Can it make me happy?

Can it meet my personal goals and agenda?

Don’t you think it’s time to find a new one? Or do you want to be stuck in the same pitiful situation?

Below are some tips you may want to consider before you jump ship.

1. SOMETIMES, A STORM WILL GET US OFF COURSE

When you start a new job, you are always enthusiastic. This is because you start on a higher wavelength.

But if you realize that your enthusiasm is already waning in the second year, you need to think if this is what you want.

It is time to change direction.

A lot of factors may have caused your excitement to die down.

It could be overwork and stress or not the job you desire.

It could be horrible bosses or lousy management.

It could be pesky colleagues or no career progression.

If you start to feel this way and it makes you unhappy, then it’s time to think about what you want to do and look for a new one.

You need to give it two years before you change course to be able to assess yourself.

At least, you will have a story to tell why you decide to leave.

Your reason for leaving your previous job must be justifiable. This is what recruiters always want to hear.

But remember, no job is perfect. The stress level is always there. But it won’t hurt if you try on a new venture.

2. TAKE THE HELM AND STEER

You know your ability. You know your proficiency.

When you have ideas, don’t be afraid to present them to your boss and the team.

Don’t get intimidated.

They have hired you because you have specific skills that your colleagues or even your boss doesn’t have.

Just be constantly prepared when doing a presentation.

Be equipped with knowledge and information.

For sure, at the end of your demonstration, your boss will ask questions to justify your proposal.

3. IT TAKES A WHILE TO SAIL THROUGH THE STORM

My friend Ada realizes that she’s already unhappy with her present job.

But being a non-risk taker, she refuses to budge, afraid of getting rejected elsewhere.

She tolerates the toxicity in the workplace, thinking it’s going to get better soon.

But she’s wrong.

Don’t ever think that everything will get better over time.

When you feel that you are already unhappy and unsatisfied, it’s time to think about your next step.

Don’t make yourself miserable unless you are a masochist.

It may get better, or it won’t. And mostly, it won’t.

You have the skills. Prove that you can do better anywhere.

4. YOU CAN’T DROP THE ANCHOR AND STEER THE BOAT AT THE SAME TIME

Doing a lot of things at work is a good thing.

It keeps you busy. It makes time go fast.

But if you begin to do five more tasks aside from your official one, you won’t be productive.

Yes, you can probably do it, but it won’t let you produce good quality results.

There’s also a possibility that you will miss your urgent and vital tasks, making it even worse.

So, learn to say no.

Multitasking doesn’t yield good results.

Your colleague or your boss may be unhappy, but you will be free from the pressure of getting all the tasks done at once.

5. GET ON BOARD AND LEARN THE ROPES

Every day is a learning process, as they say.

It’s even better to upgrade and update yourself.

Even how equipped you are, the world is changing, and you need to go with the change.

Be continually updated with the latest.

Read.

Be familiar with the trend.

Enroll or register in any course that is appropriate to your present career.

You can also learn other disciplines that may interest you.

You are never too old to learn.

So, what are you waiting for? Click that link and register now.

Admit it. You are scared to explore new things.

You spend all of your time wrapped in a cocoon, afraid to spread your wings and fly.

You don’t do things beyond your comfort zone because you are too comfortable to move out.

Take that leap of faith! You have to take chances.

Discover new things. Live your dream.

As the saying goes, “Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.”

So, face your greatest fears.

It’s time to get out of your shell.

Nothing can stop you from doing what you really want.

You and only you can fulfill your dreams.

It’s time to take a step to a healthier, happier and more fulfilling career.

But remember, even when you find a company that is not toxic, happiness is always found within you.

If you choose to be happy, then you will be happy.

If you are still unsatisfied, then the problem lies within you.

So, think about it. The choice is always yours.
